Aquatic Testing Laboratories conducts a wide variety of aquatic toxicity tests at very reasonable prices. The following guideline was written to provide our clients with a general description of our testing services. Should
you need additional information, our staff is always available to help answer any questions that may arise. Please call us at 805-650-0546.
Which test? Typically, most toxicity testing conducted by
our laboratory may be divided into one of two categories, namely hazardous waste
characterization tests or NPDES tests. Hazardous waste characterization testing is conducted on samples
of a product or a waste prior to disposal or treatment. Samples may be a
contaminated soil, or other solid wastes such as old filters, or a liquid waste.
We follow the California Hazardous Waste Test protocol, as mandated under Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations (CCR; formerly CAM).
NPDES testing is the other common type of bioassay
testing conducted at Aquatic Testing Laboratires. NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permits are required for many types of effluent discharges, (both
industrial and public), and for many storm water runoff discharges. The NPDES
permit places limits on the various constituents of the discharge, including toxicity. Species and test protocols are usually dictated by the regulatory permitting agency and may be any one of 20 test protocols conducted here at the laboratory.
Please, if possible, FAX us a copy of the toxicity monitoring requirements contained in the NPDES permit to ensure proper testing. Our fax number is (805)
650-0756. Other types of toxicity testing are available upon request. Please give us a call if you require further information on these.
Turn-Around-Time Our normal turn-around-time for most acute
bioassays is 5 days. As most test procedures require a minimum of 96 hours (four
days) to complete, this means that we start work on your sample as soon as in
comes in the door, Monday through Saturday. We will Fax you results as soon as
the data is reviewed on the final day of testing, and the final report will be
mailed the following day. This expedited service is now offered at no additional
cost!
